First Across the Finish Line

Julia, an established member of the Handepay sales team is set to make history by becoming one of the first 5000 runners to cross the finishing line at the new National Olympic Park in London. Julia intends to raise money for the Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham and Chesters’ Hospice of the Good Shepherd – two charities close to her home town of Chester.

This event takes place at the National Olympic Park in London on 31^st March 2012, Julia will make history by being one of the first people in the world to cross this famous finishing line.

Julia says ‘this is a fantastic opportunity for me personally and I am so grateful for the chance to raise much needed funds for these local charities’.

Julia who has taken part in charity runs before is delighted to be involved in this event. The five mile route will give her the chance to marvel at the massive scale of the Olympic Village and take in some of the surrounding scenery before entering the stadium and onto the home straight!

Important Customer Help and Advice on Credit Card Processing

Only process transactions for your business

Always be aware of individuals asking you to process transactions through your credit card terminal on their behalf. Remember, an authorisation code does not guarantee payment.

It is possible that these transactions could be confirmed as fraudulent at a later date and your business will be financially liable. You should only process transactions that directly relate to your business and its credit card processing.

Here’s what you and your employees should look out for…

1. A fraudster visits your premises, claiming to be a business owner based in the local area.

2. Having introduced themselves the fraudster plays on your good nature by asking for a favour. They claim their credit card terminal is out of order or not set-up yet and ask you to process some transactions for them. They may offer a cut of the total amount ‘for your time’ and ask to either collect the money or give you bank account details to transfer the funds.

3. Three days later, all seems to have gone to plan and the fraudster returns to collect their money. You believe you have made a little extra cash, while helping a local business.

4 Around two months later a succession of chargebacks are received, they are raised by the genuine owners of the cards that the fraudster asked you to process. As the business who handled the transactions you are financially liable and have no option but to accept the chargebacks, while the fraudster has long gone.

Handepay feel that this is important information for their merchants and advise them to be vigilant when it comes to their merchant service account and credit card processing for other individuals.
