Team take on Handepay St Helens Triathlon to hit fundraising target
Yesterday, a team of Handepay employees completed The Handepay St Helens Triathlon to contribute towards hitting our £30,000 fundraising target for The Steve Prescott Foundation.
On Sunday 10th September, over 200 people took part in the event. This was the third year of the Triathlon and this year it was supporting 10 years of The Steve Prescott Foundation.
The event included both standard and sprint triathlon distances, with the Handepay team members taking part in the sprint which involved a 750-metre swim, a 20k cycle and 5k run. The standard distance was made up of a 1.5k swim, a 40k cycle and a 10k run.
The event began early on Sunday morning with an open water swim section at Eccleston Mere. On completion of the swim, the cycle phase of the event began which tackled the challenge of “Shaley Brow” which is well known for its steep incline. For the final part of the event the athletes endured a 5k or 10k run leading them to the finish line at Rainford High Technology College, with spectators cheering them on as they completed the challenge.
With the help of Handepay’s sponsorship and Thatto Cycles, the event offered prizes to participants for the first time. Andy Peake, Managing Director of Handepay, handed out prizes to the worthy winners and runners- up of the sprint and standard male, female and over 40’s categories. Every participant who took part in the event received a t-shirt, medal and goody bag.
It wasn’t only the triathletes that represented Handepay on the day. Handepay employees kindly volunteered to hand out medals and goody bags, man the water station and help with marshalling the event.
