How to improve customer loyalty by offering perks

Offering your customers free perks improves customer loyalty, according to new research. Nearly a quarter of the UK consumers surveyed stated that they were more likely to be loyal to a brand if they received perks.

Almost 30% of consumers now expect to be offered a free perk when making a purchase.

The most sought-after freebies were online entertainment subscription packages, alongside exclusive discounts on popular products. Cashback opportunities were increasingly popular, with 24% of consumers looking for these.

Tailored perks, such as sector-specific discounts or free items on birthdays were also looked for.

The study found that the age group most receptive to added extras was 18-24’s. Respondents in this category even admitted that they are likely to pay more for a basic product to receive a specific bonus.

On the other hand, 35% of those aged over 65 weren’t interested in free perks, and saw them purely as a sales tool.

Your business doesn’t even need to fork out on expensive treats to encourage customer loyalty. Over a third of those questioned stated that they want to receive perks, even if it’s covered by the cost of their purchase.

If you want to improve customer loyalty, without dipping into your profit, take a look at these free ideas:

  • Partner with other businesses in your area or sector, and promote their business by offering discount codes to your customers. If the other businesses do the same, you could increase customer numbers!
  • Offer VIP status to customers that earn you the most profit. Providing faster service times or a dedicated phone line for these clients will improve their experience and increase their loyalty.
  • Hold preview events for your most loyal customers. Whether you’re launching a new product or service, or want to promote an existing range, this can be a great opportunity to make customers feel special.
