Conor McGinn MP and Cllr Andy Bowden revisit Handepay after three year growth spurt

Card payment specialists Handepay marked three years in their brand-new Haydock offices at Westway Park with a visit from Conor McGinn, MP for St Helens North and Councillor Andy Bowden who opened the offices in 2014, during his time as mayor.

Andy Peake, Managing Director of Handepay, comments: ‘We have had lots to celebrate over the past three years and it was great to welcome our guests to witness the growth of a local company and exhibit its contribution to the community’

October 2015 saw Handepay partner with a new acquirer to take on the major players and revolutionise the card payment market with its simple pricing strategy.  This created a demand for their services which has led to the recruitment of more local staff, with numbers going from 82 to 148 over the last three years.

This growth has been key to a successful business and Handepay views its staff as an integral part of this. Training and development is offered as standard with many staff developing their skills through courses provided by St Helens Chamber’s Business School.

In 2016 Handepay celebrated their 10-year anniversary and The Steve Prescott foundation (SPF) became their nominated charity, which has seen them raise over £14,000 since May 2016.

Staff have taken part in a series of fundraising events including the ‘The Grand Final Walk’, where staff walked 18 miles from Haydock to Old Trafford. More recently staff members ran the St Helens 10k and on the 10th September 2017, The SPF will host the Handepay St Helens Triathlon.

After the visit, Conor McGinn said: ‘It was good to meet with Andy to talk about the success of Handepay, and how he wants to develop the business and continue to make a positive contribution to the local economy and community.

Chances are if you have paid for goods or services with a credit or debit card, you will have at some point used a Handepay card machine.

Andy is a great example of what can be achieved through hard work, creating the right product and a skilled and motivated workforce.’
