Get to know your employees
It’s important to know what makes your employees tick, to truly understand what motivates them. Showing an interest in their likes, dislikes, hobbies and home-life can help to build stronger working relationships. Spend time to ask questions about what they like to do in their spare time. Every individual is different in terms of what motivates them, and taking a genuine interest in your team and showing you care about them can be motivational in itself.
Encourage activities outside work
It’s great to have a dedicated team who continuously work hard but it’s important that they don’t burn themselves out. You can boost employee morale and teamwork by organising activities outside of the office, such as exciting team-building days out or even some “down-time” at a spa to help you relax after busy periods in your business. By taking the time out to get to know your team, you can gather common interests and organise monthly activities that everyone will enjoy.
Reward your employees
Rewarding your employees for the hard work they do can go a long way in boosting productivity. Use small rewards to encourage activity and highlight achievements, such as vouchers for their favourite store or restaurant, additional holidays or a team lunch! Dependent on the type of business you run you could give your employees a weekly/monthly newsletter to mention their hard work or have an employee of the month scheme.
