How does the new limit benefit you?
The FCA states that the contactless limit increase will ‘improve convenience for consumers and merchants. In future we could see more consumers using contactless card payments for higher value transactions … without needing to use Chip and PIN.’

Are there any risks?
With regards to the risk of fraud, the FCA has stated that ‘no material increase in fraudulent transactions has been observed in other countries where the contactless limit increased to the equivalent of £100 or above.’
Please note, the update of the contactless limit to £100 is a compliance change in line with Cardscheme rules and terminals must be updated in line with this. Some banks are allowing their customers to set their own contactless limits on consumer cards.
