In December 2015 the Bird in Hand completed a renovation to reopen as an independent gastropub. The pub attracts customers from all over Surrey due to their high-quality food and warm welcoming bar area.

Owner, Michael Cumberland, was pleased that Handepay found a solution to his card terminal concerns.

“Due to the shape of our building, we had lots of signal issues with the portable card reader when trying to take payments at the table in our restaurant, which meant we had to ask customers to walk to the bar area to make a card payment. Some diners were inconvenienced because of this, and it made us look unprofessional.

When we switched to Handepay, they sent an expert engineer to install our new portable card reader and found a solution to our previous signal issues. Now we can take payments anywhere on our premises, even outside in our beer garden, which will come in handy during the summer!

I was also surprised to discover that we could save over £1,500 per year on our portable card reader fees by switching to Handepay. Our switching costs, which added up to almost £1,500, are being covered too! Every little helps when running a business, so making these savings is really useful.”
