Rotherham based Rendezvous Emporium opened in January 2016, with the aim to promote local independent businesses. After collecting vintage items to showcase and sell for just over a year, owners Karen and Garry West decided to open their own shop. The Emporium stock their own vintage and shabby chic furniture, as well as allowing artists, crafters, designers and sellers to display their items.
Karen believes that around 30% of sales so far have been made through their credit card machine.
“Being a new business, our main concern about taking card payments was cost. We needed a card machine that was affordable, with a company that we could trust. Handepay was recommended by a friend in business and when I called, there was no ‘hard sell’, I was given options and clear explanations.
As the shop is new a lot of customers come in to take a look, and don’t always have cash on them. They notice the card machine and can therefore make more impulse purchases without having to leave disappointed. If customers see something tempting by the counter, and have their card handy, 90% of the time they will buy something.
